An art that is beyond the visible.
"He paints what he sees, paints what he feels and his art develops in the stimuli and perceptions that overflow with his creative energy, talent and matter.
This young painter almost self-taught, since pure self-taught does not exist, since his early 20s has been able to develop a pictorial expression with the resource and mastery of techniques as varied as oil painting, drawing, pastel or acrylic, having in reality its raw material, which it appropriates by reinventing it.
In his spatial organization of painting, with a geometric dominance, his training as an Architect who also exercises the art of painting will not be absent, as in his architecture his dimension of painter will also be present.
There are many cases of architects / painters in the most recent history of Portuguese art, with Frederico George or Nadir Afonso, in which the sense of the morphology and structure of his creations are matured in these two arts. It is a painting of organization and imaginary expression that Olavo Cavaco builds, but it is also a painting with an architectural rather than an architectural organization, which expresses itself in its constructions, whether they have a markedly geometric component, which this architectural organization traces without to build another poetic and visual architecture as well.
Even his most "realistic" paintings, if it is still worth knowing what realism and realism in art really are, are moments and transfigurations of that reality, the scam and fiction of our own perceptions. An art that is beyond the visible.
This is the trajectory I have seen in his most recent works. A work that has been tracing a discreet and safe path of affirmation, a line of research and expression, faithful to its observation and based on its desire for discovery through art, through the observation and transfiguration of a landscape, which as a pictorial matter, has no in reality, and in looking at that reality, more than a pretext."
